Brief Information about the Republic of Uzbekistan

In terms of population among the CIS countries Uzbekistan ranked third after Russia and Ukraine and more than 25 million people. The country is situated in the central and north-western part of Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan. The Republic of Uzbekistan - the ninth in the world gold producer and the seventh for the production of uranium, the country ranks fourth in their stocks of these resources.

Rare metals, oil and gas - are not the only underground wealth of the Republic - over 3000 deposits make it possible to receive more than 100 kinds of mineral resources.


Development program of the chemical industry is based on increasing use of mineral resources of the country. The program focuses on rehabilitation of existing plants and equipment, strengthening the foundations of industry and creation of new chemical plants. In accordance with the program of industrial development have been identified 23 investment projects worth 3.5 billion dollars. Projects aimed at improving the supply of raw materials for chemical production, increase range of mineral fertilizers and chemical plant protection, using of non- powerful technologies that meet the requirements of environmental protection. Now there is a need to invest in new technology and production, as the available technology is very energy intensive. 24-25 of January,2006 at the summit of the Interstate Council of Heads of States of the Eurasian Economic Community in St. Petersburg Republic of Uzbekistan became an official member of this organization. Between member countries labor, goods and services will free move. Customs will apply only to goods coming from third countries, and apply once.
